Fender Custom Shop 1966 Jaguar Deluxe Closet Classic, Rosewood Fingerboard, Aged Surf Green

Another great addition from the Custom Shop is this stunning Collection Series 1966 Jaguar. Sure to please any offset fan, especially one in search of a custom colour, this is one of the finest short-scale guitars to enter the shop.

Surf Green is a great compliment to the Jaguar, enhancing the ultra 60s vibe of the body lines and topped off with a matching painted headstock, this example begs you for some surfy licks.

As with most classic Jags, jangle is its true calling. Chords sparkle and shimmer without blinding, the percussive snap of the 6th string punches with a guttural force, and the scoop of the pickups in tandem offers a brilliant rhythmic spank. The bridge pickup has all the clarity and attack of a Tele or Strat, but there's a rounded openness that exudes a smooth bottom end often missing from its 25.5" scale counterparts. Of course there is the typical murkiness of the upper circuit that is definitely overshadowed, but leaves some tonal territory to be discovered.

The Deluxe Closet Classic getup adds a subtle aging to the finish with some light checking noticeable. This look makes the Surf Green pop under a gorgeous nitro patina.

The neck sports the dots and binding combo, an iconic feature of the transitional CBS-built Fenders. The profile is a comfortable medium C, not overly pronounced or too slim, just a nice familiar feel with a very slight taper.
