The slick design of the uber-utilitarian-meets-modest-good-looks of early Telecasters are truly satisfying to behold. However, with the introduction of rosewood fretboards and a wider custom-colour palette at the tail end of the 1950s, the evolution of the Tele started to become slightly less modest, and possibly even more satisfying.
This Journeyman 1960 Telecaster captures that moment when the instrument moves away from the ubiquitous butterscotch/maple combo that defined the original aesthetics, and into something with a few more buttons undone.
The tastefully-applied patina across the lacquered surf green body matches beautifully with the gentle curves and familiar shape, without looking too 'hot-rod'. Complimented by the ultra 60s AAA 9mm rosewood board, the neck profile abandons all semblance of the 'V' shape for the softer oval 'C', which is still the standard today.
As with a handful of other Fender Custom Shop model orders brought into the shop recently, this Tele is a one-of-one custom spec'd order featuring Josephina hand-wound 58 pickups, treble-bleed circuit, and body sorted for lightweight. Other features are as listed below:
